NPR's report, published 27 May 2022, on the Southern Baptist Convention's own release, two days after the Guidepost Solutions investigation's own findings were published, of a 205 page database naming more than 700 pastors, deacons, ministers, youth pastors and volunteers accused of sexual abuse, largely in cases spanning 2000 to 2019. The article states each entry references at least one of: an admission, a confession, a guilty plea, a conviction, a civil judgment, a formal sentencing, or inclusion on a sex offender registry, so the list mixes adjudicated and otherwise substantiated cases rather than raw, unexamined allegations. The SBC's own Executive Committee had compiled and secretly maintained the list for years before its release, per the Guidepost investigation's own finding.

Facts
Assessment
Reliability Tier
1
Tier 1: a national news organisation's direct reporting on the list's release, corroborated by contemporaneous, independently authored coverage of the same figure (more than 700 entries, 205 pages) from at least four other outlets (Axios, NBC News, Global News, WSPA), all published within days of each other in late May 2022.
Notes
Cross-checked against four independent outlets, 14 August 2026. "More than 700" is the source's own stated figure, not an exact count; the atlas records 700 as a documented floor and says so plainly wherever the figure appears.
