Palkhi is D. B. Mokashi's own memoir of walking the Palkhi pilgrimage to Pandharpur, here in Philip Engblom's scholarly translation published by the State University of New York Press in 1987. As a firsthand memoir it is the correct source for what the pilgrimage looked and felt like from inside Mokashi's own experience of it, in the years he made the journey. Its limit is that a personal memoir, however vividly observed, describes one participant's own walk rather than the institutional structure or theology of the Varkari tradition as a whole, so a claim about the tradition's history or doctrine needs a scholarly source alongside this firsthand account.
