David Phillipson's Ancient Ethiopia, an archaeological and historical survey of the Aksumite kingdom, discusses and reproduces Ezana's own trilingual royal inscriptions and coinage, the primary record of his reign and his conversion to Christianity. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed academic monograph by a leading archaeologist of the region, working from the primary material itself. Its limit is that Ezana's own inscriptions survive only in the fragments that have been recovered and translated, so gaps in the record remain gaps in any account built on them.
