Newrick, Affie and Corrall's 1990 paper in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, volume 83, issue 8, confirmed against the journal's own record, is a peer reviewed clinical study. Its strength is that it reports a genuine, statistically significant association between palm lifeline length and age at death across one hundred consecutive autopsies at Bristol Royal Infirmary, strengthened further once hand size was controlled for. Its limit is that it is a single manual study of a hundred cadavers, not a large scale trial, and it is frequently miscited elsewhere as a different journal or as having found the opposite of what it actually reports; the atlas cites what the paper itself says and sets the later negative replication beside it.

Assessment
Reliability Tier1
NotesThe 1990 cadaver study. Reports a highly significant association between life-line length and age at death in 100 consecutive autopsies. Frequently miscited as a Lancet or BMJ paper and, more often, as having found the opposite of what it reports; the atlas cites it for what it actually says and sets the later negative result beside it.
