Simpson's Hymns And Alliance Hymnody (Ambrose University Alliance Studies)

A course reading from Ambrose University's Alliance Studies program, an academic partner of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, on Simpson's hymns and Alliance hymnody. States A. B. Simpson wrote "A Missionary Cry," possibly his first hymn, while pastoring in Louisville, that it was first published in 1891 in his new hymnal Hymns of the Christian Life, that the underlying conviction, "one hundred thousand souls are dying without Christ every twenty-four hours in heathen lands," dates to February 1889, and that it became "the theme song of the Alliance," with "many a farewell service" for departing missionaries including it in the program.
