The Amsterdam Declaration is the foundational statement of world humanism adopted by the general assembly of Humanists International, known until a name change as the International Humanist and Ethical Union, first adopted in 1952 at the organisation's founding congress in Amsterdam and formally revised twice since, in 2002 and again in 2022, each revision itself adopted by the same general assembly process. Its strength is that it is a primary declaration by the organisation whose defining statement it is, adopted through the body's own formal governance rather than written about it from outside, making it the correct source for what organised humanism declares about itself. Its limit is that it speaks for organised humanism as represented by this federation, not for every self-described humanist or humanist organisation worldwide, some of which are not members and do not necessarily endorse every clause.
