The Astrological Houses: The Spectrum of Individual Experience, Dane Rudhyar's 1972 book from Doubleday, is a widely read statement of modern humanistic astrology by one of the twentieth century's most influential astrological writers. It is cited here as a primary statement of modern house doctrine, including the practice, unknown to classical astrology, of reading Uranus, Neptune and Pluto by house. Its strength is that it directly articulates a living tradition's own practice. Its limit is that it is an insider's advocacy of that practice, not independent scholarship, and makes no claim to represent traditions that never knew the outer planets.
