Bhadriraju Krishnamurti's The Dravidian Languages, published by Cambridge University Press in 2003, is the standard modern scholarly reference on the Dravidian language family, covering its history, internal classification and comparative grammar, written by one of the leading Dravidian linguists of his generation. Its strength is that it is a peer-reviewed university press reference that remains the standard citation in Dravidian linguistics. Its limit is that it is a technical linguistic reference, not a study of the cultural or religious dimensions of Dravidian-speaking communities, so a claim about religious practice among Dravidian language speakers needs a source addressing that subject directly.
