The Festival of Timket

This is the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church's own Sunday School Department, Mahibere Kidusan, account of the Festival of Timket, the church's Epiphany celebration commemorating the baptism of Christ. As the tradition's own institutional account it is the correct source for how the church itself describes and understands the festival's meaning and observance. Its limit is that it is a religious institution's self-account rather than an independent scholarly study, written to explain the festival to the church's own community rather than to assess it critically or comparatively, so a claim about Timket's historical development, or a comparison to Epiphany observance elsewhere in Orthodoxy, needs an independent academic source.
