Rita Chin's history of West Germany's guest worker program, which recruited foreign labor, most visibly roughly 867,000 Turkish workers by 1973, under a program running from 1955 to 1973, and of the social and political consequences of that migration. Chin is a historian of modern Germany, and this Cambridge University Press monograph is a standard scholarly account of the program and the settled Muslim population it left behind. Use it for the dated shape of the guest worker program itself; a claim about present-day German integration policy needs a more current source.
