Bhikkhu Analayo's article in the Journal of Buddhist Ethics, volume 20, 2013, is a peer-reviewed scholarly study of the revival of the bhikkhuni, or Buddhist nuns', ordination lineage and of the argument that its earlier lapse threatens the decline of the sasana, the Buddhist teaching and community. Analayo is a recognized textual scholar of early Buddhism whose work on the nuns' order is repeatedly cited across the field. Its limit is that it is a single scholarly article making a textual and historical argument, not an ethnographic account of how the revival is actually being received or resisted within specific monastic communities today, which needs a separate, more contemporary source.
