M. Cecilia Gaposchkin's scholarly study of the Sainte-Chapelle and the Passion relics of Louis IX, published in part through France's own Centre des monuments nationaux in 2015, is an academic monograph. Its strength is that it treats the chapel and its relics as one connected subject, the building constructed specifically to house the Crown of Thorns and other relics Louis IX acquired. Its limit is the ordinary one for a single scholarly study: it is one historian's synthesis of the material and documentary record, not the only academic account of the chapel's history.
