G. R. S. Mead was an early twentieth century Theosophist and translator, and this 1906 volume is his own English translation of the Corpus Hermeticum, made available today through the Internet Sacred Text Archive alongside the original Theosophical Publishing Society edition. Its value is that it made the Hermetic treatises accessible to English readers well before most later academic translations existed, and it remains a widely reprinted public-domain text. Its limit is the reason for its tier two placement: Mead translated as a sympathetic esotericist advancing his own Theosophical reading of Hermeticism, not as a detached philologist, so a modern academic translation should be checked alongside this one rather than treating Mead's wording as neutral.
