Jan Gonda's Vedic Literature: Samhitas and Brahmanas, the first volume of A History of Indian Literature, published by Otto Harrassowitz in 1975, is an academic reference survey of the Vedic Samhita and Brahmana corpus, written by one of the twentieth century's leading Indologists. Its strength is that it remains a standard reference work for the structure and content of the Vedic textual corpus, still cited across Vedic studies. Its limit is that it is a broad survey covering an enormous body of text, so a claim needing close analysis of one specific Samhita or Brahmana passage should be checked against a source focused on that individual text.
