On 6 May 2023, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, presided over the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey, London, structuring the rite as an Anglican service of Holy Communion under the title Called to Serve. Welby anointed the King with holy oil using the church's own medieval coronation implements and administered the coronation oath, and the King and Queen received Holy Communion from his hands. The Church of England itself described the service as rooted in longstanding tradition and Christian symbolism, while its procession also carried leaders of the Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Zoroastrian communities of the United Kingdom, alongside Christian representatives from beyond the established church.
