In 2015, Houston's Cao Dai community opened a new 7,500 square foot temple in the southwest of the city, built at a cost of about $2.5 million and among the largest Cao Dai places of worship anywhere outside Vietnam, second in the United States only to a temple in Dallas. Hundreds of people attended the opening. Then Houston mayor Annise Parker proclaimed the day Cao Dai Day in the city, a civic recognition of a community that had been worshipping in the area since Vietnamese refugees began arriving after 1975. The temple's design echoes the movement's Holy See at Tay Ninh, with its distinctive Divine Eye above the altar, and it serves one of four Cao Dai congregations now active in the Houston area.
