Origin from 2025
Ise Grand Shrine's sixty third Shikinen Sengu, the roughly twenty year cycle in which the shrine's own buildings are entirely rebuilt on an adjoining site and its sacred treasures and enshrined mirror ceremonially transferred, opened with the Yamaguchisai ceremony on 2 May 2025 and continued with the Misomahajimesai timber cutting rite in the Kiso Valley National Forest on 3 June 2025, the first felling of the sacred cypress destined for the new shrine buildings. The cycle, tracing a practice more than thirteen hundred years old, is scheduled to conclude with the transfer of the sacred mirror to the newly built shrine in 2033.
