On 25 and 26 May 2024, about four thousand people gathered in Port Moresby for the dedication of the national Baha'i House of Worship of Papua New Guinea, with more than a thousand attending the inauguration ceremony on the first day and roughly three thousand joining celebrations on the second. Some arrived on foot, having set out weeks earlier from across the country. The temple, designed by Henry Lape and Saeed Granfar in a woven basket form drawing on a craft common to Papua New Guinea's many cultures, is the first Baha'i House of Worship built for the population of an entire nation. National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, Cardinal Sir John Ribat and other government officials and religious leaders attended alongside members of Papua New Guinea's Baha'i community, whose National Spiritual Assembly secretary Confucius Ikoirere called the building a beacon of light and hope for the future.
