Origin from 1970
On 22 July 1970, Tenrikyo Church Headquarters established a Mission Center in Paris, its first standing institutional presence in continental Europe, sixteen years after construction began on the Oyasato-yakata at the faith's Jiba in 1954, already recorded here. Missionary trips by the Second Shinbashira through the 1950s and 1960s had carried the faith's teachers to France repeatedly, and Paris was chosen as the seat of the new center partly for its standing as a transit point for Tenrikyo's parallel mission to Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo. The center opened at Antony, just south of Paris, registered as a religious association under France's 1905 law separating church and state, and was later renamed the Tenrikyo Europe Centre as its role widened to serve the faith's whole European following. It remains the tradition's administrative seat in Europe today, well before its Disaster Relief Corps was recorded responding to the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, already recorded here.
