Fairy Tarot Cards

Fairy Tarot Cards is a seventy eight card deck Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine created with artwork by Howard David Johnson, published by Hay House in 2015 as a self esteem focused companion to their earlier Angel Tarot Cards, designed to be mixed with that deck for combined readings. It keeps the traditional twenty two card Major Arcana and fifty six card Minor Arcana structure while renaming the four suits Spring, Summer, Winter and Autumn for their associated elements and the court cards Princess, Prince, Queen and King, setting every card among fairy courts against a backdrop drawing on Glastonbury, England.

Johnson's photo realist, richly coloured digital collage work, influenced by Pre-Raphaelite painting, gives Fairy Tarot Cards a different visual register from the soft pastel illustration Virtue and Valentine's other two decks share. It is the last of the three published, following Angel Tarot Cards in 2012 and Guardian Angel Tarot Cards in 2014, completing a catalogue that kept the same underlying seventy eight card structure across three decks while renaming its suits and shifting its central cast, angels, then a further angelic framing, then fairies, over three consecutive years.
