Divinity Atlas
The Atlas Mostly Debunks an Age
Corrections come in many shapes, but one shape recurs far more than any other in this atlas. Of 529 claims tested here and found false, 222, well over four in ten, share the same error: a date, the supposed beginning of a plant remedy or a gemstone practice or a musical frequency, placed centuries or millennia earlier than it can be shown to belong.
Three Sweeps, One Error
Three groups of corrections account for most of it: 51 plants corrected under the old doctrine of signatures, the idea that a plant's shape announces its own use, a yellow flower for the sun, a heart shaped leaf for the heart; 46 gemstones corrected under modern crystal healing, whose practice of cleansing, charging and chakra correspondence is traceable to the 1970s rather than to antiquity; and 9 musical frequencies. Frequency is the single most corrected type this atlas holds: 54 of its 63 recorded claims, 86 percent, have been tested and found false, nearly all for the same reason.
A Chant That Cannot Have Been in Tune
The clearest single case claims that an eleventh century chant was sung at 528 hertz. The correction does not argue with the chant. It points out that hertz measures a pitch against a reference, and no such reference existed in the eleventh century; concert pitch has drifted between roughly 415 and over 460 hertz even within documented modern practice. A number of vibrations per second cannot attach to a performance from a period before anyone had agreed what a vibration per second was to be counted against.
That same shape, repeated across 51 plants and 46 stones, describes something about how this atlas has been built and checked rather than something about every modern spiritual practice everywhere: a claimed pedigree is one of the first things this project tests, and testing it is usually what turns the claim over.
