The movement developed a formal daily study cycle, still followed by many Chabad adherents today, in which the entire Tanya is divided into fixed daily portions assigned to specific days of the calendar year, so that a reader following the schedule completes the whole work annually in a structured, communal rhythm shared across the movement worldwide. This systematic, almost legal precision in laying out the inner life of the ordinary believer, distinguishing it clearly from the more exceptional, less generally attainable states other mystical literature often describes, is frequently cited as the Tanya's most distinctive contribution to the wider literature of Jewish mysticism. The custom of completing the book annually echoes the better known practice of an annual Torah reading cycle, applied here to a specifically Hasidic text.
