A season entry records one quarter of the year as a specific tradition divides and reads it, most often either the Western tropical quarter running from equinox to solstice and solstice to equinox, the framing Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos treats as an astrological given tied to the zodiac signs a quarter carries, or the Chinese five phase scheme that ties a season to a direction, a color, a bodily organ pair and a governing element, adding a fifth transitional season, late summer, that the four quarter Western scheme has no equivalent for.
An entry keeps these two framings, and any other tradition's own seasonal division, separate rather than merging them into one description, since a solar quarter defined by equinox and solstice dates and a five phase season defined by elemental correspondence are answering different questions even where they cover roughly the same stretch of the year, and a reader comparing traditions needs each one stated in its own terms first.
An entry also states plainly that seasonal labels and dates follow the convention of whichever hemisphere or tradition it describes, since the four astronomical quarters themselves fall at opposite times of year in the northern and southern hemispheres regardless of which cultural tradition is naming them.
