This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.
The Juxtaposition Cross of Ambition carries the same pair as the Cross of Beginnings with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 54 and Gate 53, both seated in the Root. Its first article reads Gate 54 as ambition, the drive to rise and transform one's material circumstances, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 53 as the pressure to begin, an impulse with often no interest in seeing a thing through. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.
Gate 54, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Gate 53, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 32 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 42 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.
So the ambition to transform and the pressure to begin the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of transformation and form, while the splenic instinct for what lasts and the sacral drive to finish beneath them answer to the arcs of bonding and mind. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Beginnings, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Cycles, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Penetration, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: even named in reverse order, this cross draws its Quarter reading from every corner of the wheel rather than concentrated in one.
