Juxtaposition Cross of Correction (18/17)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Correction carries the same pair as the earlier Cross of Opinions with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 18 and Gate 17. Human Design reads Gate 18, from Hexagram 18, Work on the Decayed, sits in the Spleen and is read as an alertness to what is flawed and could be set right, now the more exposed gate; and Gate 17, from Hexagram 17, Following, sits in the Ajna and is read as logical opinions that want to be organised and offered to others. Juxtaposition Crosses form their own family, belonging only to the four line one profile, and Human Design reads them as the tightest, least steerable of the three kinds.

Its design half is Gate 39 and Gate 38, also exchanged, both in the Root. Gate 39 is read as the pressure that stirs feeling in others, to discover whether there is any spirit in them; it pairs with Gate 55 in the channel of Emoting. Gate 38 is read as the drive to oppose, needing something worth opposing so the fight has a point; it pairs with Gate 28 in the channel of Struggle.

Putting correction ahead of opinion changes what this cross puts forward first, while the same Root pair of provocation and opposition sits beneath it regardless of order. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one incarnation cross is the modern system's own construction.

The Juxtaposition Cross of Correction is named here for Gate 18 and Gate 17. Its first article reads Gate 18 as an alertness to what is flawed and could be set right, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 17 as logical opinions that want to be organised and offered to others. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 18, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 17, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 39 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 38 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.

So the corrective eye and the organised opinion the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the provoking pressure and the fight worth having beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Opinions, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Upheaval, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Service, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
