Left Angle Cross of the Clarion (51/57)

The Left Angle Cross of the Clarion is named for Gate 51 and Gate 57. Human Design reads Gate 51, from Hexagram 51, The Arousing, sits in the Heart, or Will, centre and is read as competitive courage that goes first and can startle others awake; and Gate 57, from Hexagram 57, The Gentle, sits in the Spleen and is read as intuition in the present moment, associated specifically with hearing rather than sight. It falls in the Left Angle family, which practitioners read as fated in flavour, serving something beyond the individual rather than a self chosen plan.

Its design half is Gate 61 and Gate 62. Gate 61 sits in the Head and is read as the pressure to know the mystery behind existence; it pairs with Gate 24 in the channel of Awareness. Gate 62 sits in the Throat and is read as the organising of facts and particulars into an order that can be spoken; it pairs with Gate 17 in the channel of Acceptance.

So a chart carrying this cross meets shock with a gentle, hearing intuition on its exposed surface, while beneath it a Head pressure to know the unknowable answers to a Throat that turns detail into speech. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

So the startling courage and the gentle intuition the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the pressure to know the unknowable and the ordering of detail into speech beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form, the same four arcs the cross's own reversal, Gate 57 over Gate 51, also draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
