Right Angle Cross of Rulership (47/22)

The Right Angle Cross of Rulership is named for Gate 47 and Gate 22. Human Design reads Gate 47, from Hexagram 47, Oppression, sits in the Ajna and is read as a mind working over confusion, sometimes for a long time, until sense finally arrives of itself; and Gate 22, from Hexagram 22, Grace, sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as a social grace that flows or withdraws with the emotional wave rather than on demand. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and Human Design reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice.

Its design half is Gate 45 and Gate 26. Gate 45 sits in the Throat and is read as the gatherer, the voice that holds and distributes a group's resources and speaks for it; it pairs with Gate 21 in the channel of Money. Gate 26 sits in the Heart, or Will, centre and is read as the persuader, a willed salesmanship that can market and, unchecked, exaggerate; it pairs with Gate 44 in the channel of Surrender.

So a chart carrying this cross works a mind toward realization while its social grace answers to mood on the surface, while beneath it a gathering voice is backed by a persuading will, resources and rhetoric in one design half. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 47, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 22, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 45 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 26 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.

So the confusion worked toward sense and the mood answering grace the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the gathering voice and the persuading will beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation, the same four arcs the rest of the Rulership family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. With this fourth arrangement in place, every role rotation of Rulership's two gate pairs shares the same wheel wide spread, one gate from each Quarter regardless of order.
