Origin July 1846 to January 1847
The Mormon Battalion Trail traces the roughly 2,000 mile march of over 500 Latter-day Saint volunteers, mustered at Council Bluffs, Iowa in July 1846 to serve the United States Army in the Mexican-American War, from Council Bluffs to San Diego, California, arriving in January 1847. Distinct from the main Mormon Trail to the Salt Lake Valley that the same migration otherwise followed, it is remembered as the longest infantry march in United States history and is retraced today by an auto tour maintained by the Mormon Battalion Association.
