A manuscript illumination from the Menologion of Basil II, a Greek illuminated church calendar compiled circa 985 CE in Constantinople for Byzantine Emperor Basil II, containing about 430 miniatures. This miniature depicts the martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicity together with their fellow Carthaginian martyrs, executed in the arena at Carthage in 203 CE. Held by the Vatican Library, Rome, as Vat. gr. 1613.
