A Baha'i World News Service page on the Baha'i Institute for Higher Education, an informal correspondence based program the Iranian Baha'i community established in 1987 after being barred from the country's universities. Volunteer instruction by dismissed Baha'i professors moved into private homes and later online study. In September and October 1998 Iranian government agents raided the institute, arresting at least 36 faculty and staff and seizing equipment and records from more than 500 homes, with further raids in 2001 and 2003. Iran does not recognize BIHE degrees, but universities in Europe, North America, Australia and India admit its graduates to postgraduate study.
