The report states plainly that its sectarian figures are less precise than its total Muslim count, since data on sectarian affiliation have been infrequently collected or, in many countries, not collected at all.

The report is explicit in its own text that its Sunni and Shia figures are less precise than its overall Muslim population figure, because sectarian affiliation is infrequently or never collected in national censuses and surveys, so the report's own ranges are the honest ceiling on this fact's precision, not a limitation of this citation.
