A 23 November 2019 Radio Free Asia report on researcher Adrian Zenz's revised estimate that Xinjiang authorities had detained up to 1.8 million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in as many as 1,300 to 1,400 internment camps, built from a cache of more than 25,000 leaked Xinjiang government files including a spreadsheet naming nearly 1,500 people detained from a single village in Kashgar. The figure is the third and highest in a public progression from Zenz's own earlier assessments (roughly 1.1 million, then 1.5 million in March 2019).

Reliability Tier
1
Established international news reporting on a named researcher's document-based estimate, the same tier as this database's other contemporary news sources (Dawn, Human Rights Watch dispatches); not a primary government or international-body record itself, which is why it sits one tier below the OHCHR assessment already cited here.
Notes
Radio Free Asia is a US government-funded, editorially independent news organization with long-standing dedicated Uyghur-language reporting; the estimate it reports is Adrian Zenz's own, built from a large leaked-document cache rather than extrapolation, and is used here as the upper end of the detained-count range alongside the OHCHR-sourced lower figure already recorded. 1
