Allan Greer, editor, The Jesuit Relations: Natives and Missionaries in Seventeenth-Century North America, Bedford Saint Martin's, 2000, is a scholarly edited selection, with a substantial historian's introduction, from the seventy-three-volume Jesuit Relations, the missionaries' own annual reports from New France. Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec in 1608; Recollet friars arrived in 1615 and Jesuit missionaries, including Jean de Brebeuf, followed from 1625, building the Catholic church that became New France's established religious institution.
