M. Reza Hamzeh'ee's The Yaresan appeared in 1990 as volume 138 of Islamkundige Untersuchungen, the Klaus Schwarz Verlag monograph series for Islamic and Middle Eastern studies, and was reviewed on publication in the Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, the standard peer venue for area studies monographs of its kind. It remains the fullest single sociological, historical and religio-historical study of the Yaresan (Ahl-e Haqq) community available in English, combining historical reconstruction of the tradition's formation with an account of its social organization, and later scholarship on the tradition continues to cite it as a standard reference. Its age, more than three decades at the time of this citation, means recent demographic and political detail should be checked against newer work where the atlas holds any; its account of the tradition's historical formation, doctrine and social structure is not superseded.
