Origin from 2026

On 2 July 2026, commissioners to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s 227th General Assembly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, elected the Reverend Marta Pumroy-Cordero and the Reverend Doctor Kristopher D. Schondelmeyer as co-moderators on the first ballot, with the pair receiving 250 of 380 votes cast among four teams standing for the office. Pumroy-Cordero, a teaching elder from Tres Rios Presbytery who works as border ministry coordinator for the Tres Rios Border Foundation, and Schondelmeyer, a teaching elder from the Presbytery of East Iowa and pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Davenport, Iowa, campaigned on the theme Be the Leaves, calling the church to serve as a healing and hope filled presence in the world. Under a 2024 rule change, the pair will moderate the 228th General Assembly, set for San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2028, rather than the assembly that elected them.
