Origin from 1994
On 18 October 1994, during the Pentecostal Partners conference at Memphis, Tennessee, delegates of the all white Pentecostal Fellowship of North America, founded in 1948, voted to dissolve the organization, decades after the movement's first Pentecostal World Conference had convened at Zurich in 1947, already recorded here. The vote followed a spontaneous act of contrition by Assemblies of God pastor Don Evans, who knelt to wash the feet of Church of God in Christ Bishop Ithiel Clemmons and asked forgiveness for decades of white Pentecostal exclusion of Black believers, a moment participants and the press came to call the Memphis Miracle. The next day, 19 October 1994, leaders of white, Black and multiracial Pentecostal and Charismatic bodies met again and organized a new body in the PFNA's place, the Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches of North America, adopting a Racial Reconciliation Manifesto committing its member denominations to racial unity as a matter of doctrine, not sentiment. The PCCNA went on to unite dozens of Pentecostal and Charismatic denominations and associations across racial lines, well before the movement's global growth was recorded again in 2006, already recorded here.
