The primordial generation of Greek gods who preceded the Olympians and lost to them. The heading belongs to a succession narrative, set out in Hesiod's Theogony, in which each ruling generation is overthrown by its own children. Prometheus is the case here where later reception has largely displaced the source: Romantic writers made him a rebel against tyranny, while the Greek material treats him as a trickster whose theft of fire is answered with punishment. Both readings are recorded, and they are not the same figure.
