Public festivals of the Roman civic religious calendar, Saturnalia, Lupercalia and the Vestalia honoring Vesta, known from Roman calendars, inscriptions and literary sources rather than from any continuous surviving practice. Some detail, particularly of Lupercalia's rites, comes from writers describing the festival's final Roman-era form and from later Christian critics, so reconstructions of its earlier history are less certain.
