The solar quarter days of the modern Wiccan Wheel of the Year, Ostara, Litha, Mabon and Yule, marking the equinoxes and solstices. The Wheel's other four sabbats, Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain, are filed under the separate Celtic Pagan Festivals grouping, since Wicca borrowed those names and dates from reconstructed Celtic tradition rather than treating them as distinctly its own. Practitioners themselves generally describe the whole eight-festival cycle as a mid-twentieth century synthesis, not an unbroken ancient inheritance.
