What Defines This Grouping

Sites on Pohnpei, in the eastern Caroline Islands, attached to the island's chiefly order: the megalithic mortuary and ritual enclosures of the Saudeleur period and the title system that succeeded it. Much of the ground is clan-held, so custody runs through title-holders rather than one heritage authority. 2

Peoples and Traditions Covered

Pohnpei is one island and one people, divided into five wehi - Madolenihmw, Uh, Kitti, Sokehs and Nett - each under its own Nahnmwarki and Nahnken. It is not a cover term for Micronesia or for the Caroline Islands generally. 3
