The five phases of the Chinese Wu Xing seasonal cycle: Spring, Summer, Late Summer, Autumn and Winter, each tied to one of the five elements. Late Summer, tied to earth, is the phase with no equivalent in the four season Western reckoning. Excludes the Western tropical seasons, which divide the same solar year into four rather than five parts.
