Asmodeus is paired with lust in this scheme, a demon whose roots reach back through the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, where he kills a bride's first seven husbands out of desire for her, into an older Persian figure of wrathful desire. His long literary history before this classification sets him apart from demons such as Mammon, whose association with their assigned sin is comparatively recent by comparison.
