The Najibiyyih Garden on the Tigris outside Baghdad, known to Baha'is as the Garden of Ridvan, is where Baha'u'llah spent twelve days in April 1863 before his banishment onward to Constantinople, and where he is held to have first openly declared his claim to those closest to him. The physical garden is distinct from the annual Ridvan festival it gave its name to and from the single foundational declaration event itself, both already recorded elsewhere in this database; this entry is for the place.

Type of Site Detail
Ottoman authorities moved Baha'u'llah on from Baghdad, ending his stay in the garden, largely at the urging of the Persian government, which had petitioned Istanbul directly after Babi and Baha'i pilgrimage traffic from Iran into Baghdad grew large enough to alarm Tehran; the twelve days in the garden fell at the close of nearly ten years of prior exile and confinement he had already spent in the city. 2
