The Shijing (Classic of Poetry, or Book of Odes) is the oldest surviving collection of Chinese poetry, some three hundred and five folk songs, court hymns and sacrificial odes dating from roughly the eleventh to seventh centuries BCE, traditionally said to have been edited by Confucius and canonised as one of the Five Classics (Wujing) of the Confucian tradition alongside the I Ching and the Classic of Rites.
