A Coptic Grammar, with Chrestomathy and Glossary: Sahidic Dialect

Bentley Layton's is the standard scholarly grammar of the Sahidic dialect of Coptic, built from systematic linguistic analysis of the Sahidic textual corpus, with a chrestomathy and glossary that let a specific grammatical or lexical claim be checked directly against cited texts. That systematic, checkable linguistic method is the grammar's real evidentiary basis. This record has not independently traced further scholarly response since 2004. Use it for established linguistic facts about the Coptic alphabet and Sahidic Coptic grammar specifically; it is not a source on Coptic Orthodox liturgical or religious practice, which needs a dedicated liturgical source instead.
