Founding fathers of the Abrahamic line, from Adam and Noah through Abraham to Joseph. The narrower Jewish use names three, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; Christian tradition reads the whole line forward toward Christ; Islam counts several of them as prophets, and most Muslim commentators take Ishmael rather than Isaac as the son of the sacrifice, though the Qur'an does not name him. The readings are kept attributed rather than merged.
