"The claim that the enneagram of personality descends from a Sarmoung Brotherhood, from Sufi masters, from the desert fathers or from Pythagoras is unsupported. No independent evidence for the Sarmoung Brotherhood exists, no Sufi order used the figure this way, and the figure is not attested before Gurdjieff; the personality typology was added by Ichazo and Naranjo in the 1960s-70s.
