Human Design Profiles

The twelve Human Design profiles pair two of the six lines of a hexagram (written as 1/3, 4/6, 5/1 and so on), to describe a characteristic way of moving through life. The first number, from the conscious Sun's line, and the second, from the unconscious design Sun's line, combine into a profile such as the "Investigator/Martyr" or the "Heretic/Role Model".

The lines are taken from the structure of the I Ching hexagram, in which each hexagram has six lines read from bottom to top, each with its own character; Human Design gives the six lines fixed meanings and pairs them into the twelve profiles.

The profile adds a layer of life-narrative to the Human Design chart, over and above the type and centres: it describes the general arc and manner of a person's engagement with the world, in the language of the two lines. The atlas describes the profiles as part of the modern system, noting their derivation from the hexagram lines.
